Runoff Election In Homer

Nov 3, 2015

Today it is Election Day again. The City of Homer is holding a special run-off election to fill one last city council seat for a three year term. The two contenders are incumbent Beau Burgess and his challenger Heath Smith.

Smith won more votes than Burgess during October’s Regular Election. He took 37% of the vote compared to Burgess’ 35%. But, that wasn’t enough.

Shortly after the final count the city attorney advised Homer’s City Council that city code required a candidate to earn at least 40% of the vote in order to win.

Six candidates ran for two city council seats during the Regular Election. Donna Aderhold won a seat with 44% of the vote.

Today the polls will be open from 7am – 8pm.
