The petitions to recall three Homer City Council members have been certified.
In a memorandum filed Wednesday, City Clerk Jo Johnson wrote she had found the petitions were sufficiently filed.
Each petition for Donna Aderhold, David Lewis, and Catriona Reynolds needed 373 valid signatures, representing 25 percent of the votes cast in the last regular election.
In total, Aderhold received 437, and Lewis and Reynolds each received 436 signatures. Johnson said she reviewed each name off of a list of registered voters to confirm their validity. About 25 signatures per petition were not approved.
The petitions were filed March 31 by sponsors Michael Fell, Larri Fancher, and Larry Zuccaro. Johnson had 10 days to review them for certification.
The sufficiency of the petitions was based on the number of signatures and the allegations in the sponsor statements. However, Johnson noted she is prohibited from considering whether those allegations are true or false; they must just meet the requirements of types of allegations that can be made for a recall.
This confirmation starts the process for a full recall election. According to the memo, the special election is scheduled for Tuesday, June 13.
