Homer Food Hub Delivers First Orders

The first orders from the Kenai Peninsula Food Hub in Homer came in Wednesday afternoon at Kachemak Bay Community Center. Customer Chuck Lindsay was there to pick up his order of greens.

“It seems like a really wonderful opportunity for people to get local produce and meat and even seafood. And it seems like a nice alternative to the farmer’s market – a place for people to come and pick up what they’ve previously ordered and they can just go in and out the door in minutes,” said Lindsay.

Officials with the Homer Food Hub say they had 16 orders this week. They have greens, radishes, oysters, flowers and crafts available and hope to have more produce and fish as the season progresses.

The first order is free with an annual fee $20 paid with the second order. Orders must be placed between Friday at noon and 10 p.m. Monday. Pickup is Wednesday between 3 and 6:30 at the Community Center. The Kenai/Soldotna Food Hub kicks off Thursday, May 12th. More information can be found at kenaifoodhub.com.
