Among the items discussed at the Oct. 24 Homer City Council meeting was the issue of future marijuana businesses in Homer.

The Council voted to approve an ordinance authorizing the City Planner to review all applications for new marijuana establishments in Homer.

Under the new ordinance, the City Planner will ensure proposed marijuana businesses comply with Homer City Code. Based on this assessment, the City Planner has the authority to recommend to the state of Alaska that the application either be approved or denied.

The City Planner will have 15 days from the time an application is submitted to make a decision.
