The first day of school is just a few days away for students on the Kenai Peninsula. As kids enjoy the last days of summer, teachers are already setting up classrooms and gearing up for the school year. There will be a few changes for students on the Southern peninsula, but a focus on individualized learning will be among the more notable changes.

School start times are changing for students on the Southern Peninsula this fall. Younger students will be getting out earlier than in past years, and with the first day of school just a couple of weeks away, some parents are scrambling to find a place for their kids to go after school. Start and end times will change for ten southern Kenai Peninsula schools next year. That’s according to an announcement released on September 14 by the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District.

The changes came after the school board approved a cost-saving plan to move from the current “single tier” bus system to a “two-tier” system. Under the new plan, buses will stagger pick-up times for schools.
