A Special Message from KBBI Board President Dave Eckwert

Dear KBBI members:

I am writing to let you know that KBBI’s general manager, Dave Anderson, has informed the board of directors and staff that he plans to retire in April. The board has accepted Dave’s resignation with regret, and a search committee comprising members of the community, staff, and board will be formed to begin our work to find his successor. We will celebrate Dave’s service to KBBI at a special event in early spring.

Dave Anderson has been KBBI’s general manager for the past 11 years, but he’s been a major force at this station for more than 30 years. Beginning as a volunteer DJ in 1981, he served in nearly every staff position. He has been on the air. He has worked the technical end while finding financial support to keep the lights on, and he has honored KBBI by his leadership in Alaska public broadcasting. We can never thank him enough for all he has done for KBBI, its listeners and this community.

Dave will be at the annual meeting this week. Please attend and wish him well, and join us in seating new KBBI Board of Directors members and recognizing KBBI’s volunteers. Among them is Randi Somers who we will be honoring for her years of service to the KBBI listeners.

Sincerely,
Dave Eckwert
President, KBBI Board of Directors

Scott Waterman joined KBBI in May 2019 as Interim General Manager. For the past 26 years, and until his retirement last year, he served as energy programs manager for the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation. Previously he worked in radio in Alaska. He spent six years at KABN Radio in Big Lake, then managed KIYU Galena, served as program director at KRBD in Ketchikan, and was news editor for APRN in Anchorage. Additionally, he hosted the Ninth Alley blues program on KNBA Anchorage for ten years and consulted in fundraising for KBRW in Utgiagvik (formerly Barrow) and KTNA in Talkeetna. He also assisted KTNA in their initial organization and start up.
