Primary Profile: Mike Chenault

Mike Chenault is running unopposed in the Aug. 16 primary for reelection to House District 29, covering the northern Kenai Peninsula and Seward area.

Originally from New Mexico, Chenault has lived in Nikiski since 1967, graduating from Kenai Central High School in 1975. He and his wife have three kids. Chenault is vice president of the Qwick Construction Company.

He served on the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District Board of Education from 1999 to 2000 and was elected to the House in 2001. Since then, he’s served on 14 committees and 11 finance subcommittees. He has been the Speaker of the House since 2009. He currently chairs the Committee on Committees and Special Committee on Military and Veterans’ Affairs. He’s also on the Economic Development, Trade and Tourism; Finance; Labor and Commerce; and Legislative Council committees, as well as four finance subcommittees.
