HEA Rates To Go Down Slightly Next Quarter

Homer Electric Association

Monthly charges for Homer Electric Association members will be going down over the next few months.

According to a recent release, HEA said it recently proposed a nearly 7 percent decrease to its cost of power adjustment rate for the upcoming quarter.

The rate will drop from about .073 cents per kilowatt hour to about .068 cents.

For the average member using 550 kilowatt hours per month in a residence, the monthly bill should be about $3 cheaper.

The cost of power adjustment is made quarterly, HEA noted, and is based on the cost to generate power using natural gas, meaning the cheaper the gas, the cheaper the power.

One of the reasons the rates are going down this time is that at the end of last year, the Kenai Beluga Pipeline charged more than it should have. It’s now issuing a refund, lowering the overall cost, HEA said.

Customers’ bills should reflect the change starting on April 1.
