Homer District Court Judge Margaret Murphy has released on bail a Homer man charged with six counts of first-degree sexual abuse of a minor. Stephen Boyle was released Wednesday on a $100,000 unsecured performance bond and a $5,000 appearance bond.

The Kenai Peninsula Borough has placed the 43-year-old deputy fire chief for Kachemak Emergency Services on administrative leave.

There are several conditions of his release. He must be with his custodians 24 hours a day, can’t consume alcohol, must check in weekly with his lawyer, and can’t leave Alaska. In addition, he must attend all court appearances and all contact with minor children, including his own, must be supervised.

Police arrested Boyle June 16 after a Florida woman alleged he had sexually abused her while she was a child living in Homer.

If convicted he faces up to a $500,000 fine and up to 99 years in prison on each count. Boyle’s next court appearance is July 21 at the Homer Courthouse.
