City Honors Mrs. America Vicki Sarber

Aaron Selbig

The City of Homer recognized one of its newly-famous citizens Monday night – Mrs. America pageant winner Vicki Sarber. Sarber – a stay-at-home mom of three children – won the Mrs. America pageant last month in Tuscon, Arizona.

At Monday night’s meeting of the Homer City Council, city officials recognized her victory with an official proclamation. The proclamation recognized Sarber as being – quote – “extraordinarily beautiful, poised, articulate and versatile.” In a public presentation to Sarber, Homer Mayor Jim Hornaday joked that he was so excited to meet Mrs. America, he put on his Old Spice cologne just for the occasion.

Sarber addressed the city council, saying she was deeply honored. She said that she had missed an opportunity to meet with the council earlier this year, when City Clerk Jo Johnson invited her to speak following her victory in the Mrs. Alaska pageant.

Sarber, who moved to Homer with her family from Anchorage about a year ago, said she was very honored and excited to serve as Mrs. America. She will next compete in the Mrs. World pageant – at a time and place to be determined.
