Budget Options Go to Homer City Council

The Homer City Manager has prepared two budget options for the city council to consider. The budget ultimately adopted by the city largely depends on whether Homer can bring in an additional $1 million in revenue for Fiscal Year 2016.

Election Day is over. The preliminary results for candidate races and multiple ballot propositions were released by the Kenai Peninsula Borough and the City of Homer Tuesday evening. KBBI’s Quinton Chandler has more.

Three of the four propositions on the Kenai Peninsula Borough ballot passed on Tuesday.   Proposition number one, called for a repeal of a controversial ordinance. It was perhaps the most contentious ballot proposition and the only that required a borough-wide vote.

Today is Election Day and City of Homer residents will decide who serves on the city council and the Borough Assembly, who will sit on our service area boards, and whether a contentious ballot proposition should be passed. But, before any of these decisions can be announced the ballots must be tallied. On Election Day last year election officials hit a temporary road block when they tried to count the ballots. One of the machines used to tally votes malfunctioned.

The Kenai Peninsula Borough 2015 Municipal Election is less than a month away and there are two candidates competing for the South Peninsula seat. Anchor Point resident Dawson Slaughter is facing off against Homer resident Willy Dunne. KBBI’s Quinton Chandler spoke with Slaughter about his plans for a term on the assembly in this one on one interview.

Dawson Slaughter, the other candidate in the race, never responded to our invitation to participate in the program.

Borough Ballot Propositions For 2015

The Regular Municipal Election for the Kenai Peninsula Borough is on October 6th. There will be four propositions going to the ballot but only one of them will be considered by all borough residents. The other three are tied to borough service areas. Who votes on what proposition depends on the service area residents live in. KBBI’s Quinton Chandler has more on the 2015 Ballot Propositions.

Second Town Hall To Address City Budget Gap

     The City of Homer continues to seek options to fill an estimated ten percent budget shortfall. On Wednesday the city plans to hold its second town hall meeting on the problem. KBBI’s Quinton Chandler reports the upcoming meeting is another attempt to gather public opinion on revenue options for the city.
